Sempervivum Flowers

We had sempervivum — ‘Chickens and Hens’ — growing in several areas around our yard. They are wonderful for filling spaces in a rock garden or other places where other things won’t grow. Although they last a long time, the ‘hens’ flower just before they die out. I got this image several years ag

Red Buds and a Blue Sky

April 26, 2023

This has been a very strange year as far as the weather is concerned. A December freeze nearly killed many bushes and plants, and even the trees have been slow come out this year.

Our redbud tree had a few blossoms this year, but it wasn’t as pretty as it usually has been. I found this picture from a few years ago that show the redbud blossoms against a gorgeous blue Spring sky.

Several years ago I took a picture of some of the daffodils blooming in one of our flower beds. While the photograph was okay, I decided to play around with Photoshop to see what I could do with it. I eventually got this image, which reminds me of a pencil sketch.

A Pink Super Moon

It seems as if we have rain or heavy clouds every time there is a full moon, so we usually can view the full moon through TV weather reports or posts on the internet. But last month there were clear skies during full Pink Super Moon. I was able to get one decent picture from many atempts.

January Morning in the Glade

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it. Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

I don’t get up before sunrise very often these days, but if I did it would often be worth the effort. This picture was taken on a January morning a few years ago from the golf course behind our house. What a great way to start the day!

Sand in the Sky

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it. Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

A couple of weeks ago sand from the Sahara Desert reached the skies of east Tennessee. We were told that the result could be some gorgeous sunsets. It was almost dark when we noticed the sky, but I was able to get out onto the fairway in time to capture these colors in the sky before they disappeared. June 26, 2020.

Icy Tree Branches in the Night

I do not like ice storms — they’re worse than snowstorms as far as I’m concerned. I ventured out the door of our house after an ice storm a few years ago in the early evening in hopes of getting a picture or two. (That’s the moon in the lower left corner of this photo.) I was recently playing around with some image processing software and tried to emphasize the ice of the tree branches. This is the result, and I must confess that I rather like it.

Looking Back: Autumn Color in Our Front Yard

October 29, 2019

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it. Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

Most of the autumn colors we’ve seen this year has been in photographs taken in prior years. Several years ago I took an autumn picture of the dogwood tree in our front yard. While looking at it recently I decided that the photo would make a pretty good painting. This is the result.

Double Delight Rose

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it. Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

Double Delight is one of our favorite roses, because of its color and fragrance. I used Photoshop to convert a photo of the rose from our yard into a painting. I hope you like it.

Stargazer Lily

Betsy and I enjoy lilies in our yard in late Spring and early Summer. One of our favorite lilies is Stargazer. Although I took this photo a few years ago, I recently got curious to see how it would look as a painting. This is the result I got after playing with the photo in Photoshop.
