I took this photo at Cumberland Mountain State Park near Crossville, Tennessee, several years ago. I played with the image in Photoshop, attempting to make the photo look more like a painting.

In late April Betsy and I were still getting out on the golf course before the sun popped over the mountains to the east.  The morning of April 25 was overcast with heavy clouds, and I snapped this photo of the sky.

Although I thought the original picture was pretty good, I played around with the image in Photoshop and darkened the clouds and the foreground to  emphasize the color of the approaching dawn.

The original version of this photo is shown below.

Spring on the Cumberland Plateau is beautiful, and one of the trees that help announce ‘Spring is here’ is the redbud tree.  The blossoms are gorgeous, especially against a blue sky.  This tree is in our front yard.

Byrd Lake in Autumn

This watercolor is based on a photo from my archives.  Betsy and I hiked along Byrd Lake in Cumberland Mountain State Park on a beautiful October day back in 2006.  The camera I had then didn’t do a very good job with the sky, but I think it did a great job capturing the reflections, which is what I was trying to get.

The picture on which this watercolor was based is shown below.

A great way to spend a summer afternoon is to drive the back roads on the Cumberland Plateau here in Tennessee.  This drawing is based on a photo taken not too far from Fairfield Glade during a Sunday afternoon drive.
