Betsy and I would like to wish each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Blessed New Year.  We hope that Santa is good to you, and all of your memories are happy ones.  We’ll see you in 2012.

Dogwood Leaves

The dogwood tree in our front yard provides a fascinating study in just about any season.  I like the way the tree looks in autumn as the leaves turn red.

Glade Sunset

Betsy and I were treated to a beautiful sunset here in the Glade on the afternoon we got back from our Thanksgiving trip.  We enjoyed the beautiful gold color of the sky as the sun went down.

From My Archives: Cane Creek Cascade

Fall Creek Falls State Park here in Tennessee is one of our very favorite places.  We usually go once or twice each year.  One place in the park that we visit each time is Cane Creek Cascade.

The picture which is the basis for this drawing was taken on our anniversary trip to Fall Creek Falls in 2010.  April 21, 2001, was our first ‘big’ date, and we went to Fall Creek Falls.  We go back on April 21 whenever possible.

I’ve learned a few new ‘tricks’ for turning a photo into a drawing.  I hope you like the result.

Headforemost Mountain

I’ve enjoyed learning how to convert photos into line drawings so much that I decided to try converting a picture into a water color painting.  The image above is the result.

We got this view of Headforemost Mountain (I don’t know how the mountain got its name) from an overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia.  We found the picture of the mountain above the mist to be enchanting.

Betsy and I enjoy staying at Peaks of Otter when we are in that part of Virginia.  One of the attractions of the park is Abbott Lake.  This arched bridge is on the walking path around the lake.

Simple Beauty

Betsy and I usually manage to see the Conservatory every time we visit Biltmore in Asheville, North Carolina.  We wandered into the Orchid Room of the Conservatory when we visited in late November.  The simple beauty of this orchid caught my eye.

Autumn Reds

December 5, 2011

Last month Betsy and I stopped along one of the lakes here in Fairfield Glade to admire the autumn colors.  It was late afternoon, and the setting sun highlighted a red tree along the lake shore.  I thought that tree made both a wonderful photo and a neat drawing.

A Mountain Evening Sky

Our good friends Judy and Charlie have a vacation cabin in the mountains near Franklin, North Carolina.  We always enjoy the view of the evening sky from they deck when we visit them.  This is what we enjoyed one August evening.
