Sometimes raindrops can make a beautiful rose even more beautiful. I captured the soft pink blossom of Frederic Mistral a couple of years ago, but I have never published it. I thought now was about time.

A favorite rose in our yard is this beautiful bicolor, Ronald Reagan.  It’s appropriate that a rose bears his name since President Reagan signed the legislation that made the rose our official flower.

Something Special is one of the three new roses in our yard this year.  It is a pretty buttery yellow rose with paler outer petals.  It’s one of our container roses, and has done very well in this first year.

The picture on which this drawing was based was taken in late August and is shown below.

Betsy and I usually take a morning and evening walk through our yard to see what is new — or interesting — in our flower beds.  We pay special attention to the roses, because they seem to be beautiful regardless of the age of the blossoms,  This pink beauty with just a touch of yellow is Elle.

We’re fortunate to live on the Cumberland Plateau.  Our summers are reasonably moderate, so our roses continue to bloom very nicely even through the hottest months of summer.  This is Lemon Spice rose, which has a nice fragrance to go with its soft colors.

How to decide which rose to grow in our garden?  Betsy and I try to have the best of both worlds:  beautiful color and pleasing fragrance.  I think Perfume Delight scores on both counts, and the name fits as well.

The picture on which this drawing was based is shown below.

As many of you know, my Beautiful Bride and I have over fifty varieties of roses growing in our yard.  Some roses we like because of their beautiful color and form; others we like because of their delicious fragrance.  Double Delight is a favorite because it has all of these wonderful attributes of a rose.

April showers may bring May flowers, but May flowers look nice after a May shower as well.  This painting of our Sweetness Rose was taken last May.

Don’t tell Betsy, but I’m getting tired of winter weather even if we haven’t had any snow to speak of.  I’ll confess I miss seeing our roses in bloom.  Fortunately I can still enjoy them through pictures.  Our Peppermint Splash rose has beautiful color and unusual markings.
