Betsy and I drove along the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive in November a couple of years ago.  We stopped at most — if not all — of the overlooks along the way.

One of the overlooks in Virginia offered a view of Head Foremost Mountain.  The mountain in the distance seemed to float between the mist below and the clouds above.

The picture on which this painting was based is shown below.

Betsy and I always go to the gardens when we visit Biltmore Estate and Gardens, but we have another favorite spot that we almost always visit.  It’s possible to get a great view of the back of Biltmore House from the Lagoon near the French Broad River.

The picture on which this drawing was based was taken in October. 2011, and is shown below.

Last September Betsy’s son Jeff and I visited the old Western & Atlantic Railroad Tunnel in Tunnel Hill, Georgia.  The 1,477 foot-long tunnel was constructed by hand between 1848 and 1850.  After walking through the tunnel (no longer in use) we came upon this scene at the eastern entrance

Something Special is one of the three new roses in our yard this year.  It is a pretty buttery yellow rose with paler outer petals.  It’s one of our container roses, and has done very well in this first year.

The picture on which this drawing was based was taken in late August and is shown below.

Lake Dartmoor is the largest lake in Fairfield Glade.  Most of the homes along the lakefront have their own dock, and there is a marina as well  Betsy and I took a cruise on Lake Dartmoor several years ago, which is when I took this photo of one arm of the lake.

The picture on which this water color was based is from my archives and is shown below.
