We’re fortunate to have some  azaleas around our house.  The bushes aren’t very large, but the blossoms are beautiful.  We always look forward to the way the brighten a sunny Spring day.

This painting is based on a photograph of a pink azalea taken in April, 2011.

Betsy and I had planned to go to Cashiers, North Carolina, over Valentine Day, but 14 inches of snow in the mountains on western North Carolina caused us to postpone that trip.  We finally made it to Cashiers in mid-March.  We had hoped to see Whitewater Falls on March 19, but thick fog prevented us from making that visit.  Fortunately the weather cooperated on March 20, when I took the photo on which this poster is based.

Last year Betsy picked out some new daffodils for our yard.  Quail Daffodil is a bright yellow daffodil with blossoms that last and last and last.  The blossoms are smaller than some of our daffodils, but they are definitely cheery and have a pleasant fragrance.

Betsy and I went to Ohio’s Hocking Hills State Park in early March. One of the main attractions there is Old Man’s Cave, which we’ve visited before. This time the trail down into the gorge was covered with ice, which made it interesting to get down to the floor of the cave. This sketch is based on a photo I took of a column of ice on the bottom of the gorge.

Betsy and I stay in the same cabin each time we go to Mt. Nebo in Arkansas.  It’s a one-bedroom stone cabin on the western rim of the mountain with glorious views of the sunsets.  This watercolor is based on a picture I took on our visit in February of this year.

We have a pink dogwood tree in our front yard, and we become believers in the arrival of Spring when we see the pretty blossoms.  It is rarely ‘loaded’ with flowers, but we sure like the ones it does share with us.

The picture on which this drawing was based is shown below.
