I created this panorama from pictures I took in February at Petit Jean State Park in Arkansas. The day was overcast, but we were able to enjoy the view from an overlook at one end of the mountain. You can see the Arkanss River at the extreme left of the image.

When My Beautiful Bride and I visited Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona back in 2011, we were both very impressed with the Teepees area of the park. The rock formations in that area contain layers of blues, purples, grays and reds.

Although I took many photographs while we were there, I used software with one photo to create an image that resembles a painting. You see the result of this experiment above.

Cold winter days are perfect for armchair traveling. I spent a couple of days going through pictures I took several years ago in the Petrified Forest. We came upon this rock covered with petrolglyphs in the Puerco Pueblo portion of the park. The pueblo was built about a thousand years ago, but later abandoned. It’s fascinating to try and decipher the story these petrolglyphs were written to tell.

Betsy and I took our first western trip last year.  Although we saw some wonderful places, we barely scratched the surface of things to see in that beautiful part of the country, so we hope to get back there soon.

One of the first places we visited was Petrified Forest National Park, where we hiked along Blue Mesa.  This is the view fairly near the trailhead.

The picture on which this drawing was based is shown below.

The Tepees are cone-shaped rock formations in the Petrified Forest National Park.  They contain multiple layers of colorful rocks.

The Agate Bridge

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.)

This is a drawing of the Agate Bridge is the Petrified Forest National Park.  The bridge is formed by a petrified log over a gully washed out by centuries of floods.  The concrete support under the log was added back in 1917.

The picture on which this drawing was based is shown below.
