Betsy and I spent the Thanksgiving Weekend in 2011 in the Shenandoah National Forest, enjoying Skyline Drive and the beautiful scenery it presented.  We stayed in Skyland, venturing out each day to explore the area.  An early morning stop at Hazel Mountain Overlook along Skyline Drive allowed me to capture the photo upon which this watercolor is based.

We have almost as many day lilies in our yard as we have roses. Star Struck has huge, beautiful yellow blossoms which light up a corner of our day lily bed.

I hope each of you here in the U. S. have a safe and joyous holiday weekend.  The Fourth of July is celebrated here in the Glade with fireworks and special events.  This watercolor is based on a photo I took several years ago during our fireworks show.

Betsy and I stay in the same cabin each time we go to Mt. Nebo in Arkansas.  It’s a one-bedroom stone cabin on the western rim of the mountain with glorious views of the sunsets.  This watercolor is based on a picture I took on our visit in February of this year.

One of the nicest ways to spend a cold winter day is to visit the Conservatory at Biltmore Estate and Gardens in Asheville, North Carolina.  The Orchid Room is toasty warm and the orchids are absolutely gorgeous.  This water color is based on a photo taken back in February, 2011.

Lake Dartmoor is the largest lake in Fairfield Glade.  Most of the homes along the lakefront have their own dock, and there is a marina as well  Betsy and I took a cruise on Lake Dartmoor several years ago, which is when I took this photo of one arm of the lake.

The picture on which this water color was based is from my archives and is shown below.

One advantage of living on a golf course is that we can get a clear view of the evening sky (after the golfers are finished, of course).  Clouds are often painting in glowing colors after the sun drops below the Plateau.  This picture of the eastern sky was taken behind our house.

The picture on which this drawing was based is shown below.

Bicolor is another of the day lilies we have planted near the garage of our house.  I’m guessing that the name comes from the alternating colors on the petals of the blossoms.  This water color is based on a photo taken in July, 2011.

Each autumn Betsy and I plant pansies in our flower beds.  They struggle bravely through the winter and then enjoy the sunshine of spring-like weather.  This watercolor is based on a photo from my archives.

In February, 2010, Betsy and I explored the Ouachita Mountains on our way to Mt. Nebo in Arkansas.  It was the first time we had visited that part of Arkansas, and while we were looking for waterfalls we found plenty of other beauty to enjoy.

The watercolor above shows the beautiful, colorful rocks in the bed of a creek we crossed over as we drove through the Ouachitas.

The picture on which this watercolor was based is shown below.
