Byrd Lake in Autumn

November 20, 2012

This watercolor is based on a photo from my archives.  Betsy and I hiked along Byrd Lake in Cumberland Mountain State Park on a beautiful October day back in 2006.  The camera I had then didn’t do a very good job with the sky, but I think it did a great job capturing the reflections, which is what I was trying to get.

The picture on which this watercolor was based is shown below.

We are blessed on the Cumberland Plateau with summer skies of a beautiful blue filled with white clouds.  We saw this wonderful scene on a Sunday drive along some of the back roads near Crossville, Tennessee.

A great way to spend a summer afternoon is to drive the back roads on the Cumberland Plateau here in Tennessee.  This drawing is based on a photo taken not too far from Fairfield Glade during a Sunday afternoon drive.

Little River in the Afternoon

Betsy and I enjoy hiking in the winter and early spring.  A few years ago we hiked up Little River past Elkmont in the Smokies to visit a waterfall.  We came back in the afternoon, and I liked the way the afternoon light was reflected in the water of the river.

We get some beautiful blue skies in June up here on the Cumberland Plateau, and seeing white clouds floating across that blue background makes me wish I was an artist.  I’m not an artist, but I was able to create this ‘water color drawing’ with Photoshop, based on a photo I took near Hebbertsburg, only a few miles from our house.

The picture on which this drawing was based is shown below.

Betsy and I enjoy exploring the back roads wherever we travel, but we also enjoy the back roads here on the Plateau as well.  We came upon this scene while driving through Grassy Cove here on the Plateau.
