When I first saw the Great Wall of China back in 1987 I was almost mesmerized by the way it snaked over the mountains north of Beijing.  The intervening 30 years have not been kind to the slides I took back then, but I’ve been trying to save what I can.  I used software to turn the slide which was the basis for this image into a “photo painting”.  If you look closely you can see the wall snaking along the ridge tops.

I saw the Great Wall of China for the first time in July, 1987.  It was truly amazing to see that giant wall snaking across the ridge line north of Beijing.

This image was created from a slide I made in July, 1987.

I’ve been fortunate enough to visit the Great Wall of China four different times.  Unfortunately all four times were before the advent of digital photography, so all of my pictures were either prints or slides.  Slides don’t always scan well, but I was able to create this water color from a scanned slide made in 1990.  This is a watch tower on the Great Wall at Badaling near Beijing.
