Terraces in Bali

I visited Bali almost thirty years ago and found the island to be both beautiful and idyllic.  One of the sights I really enjoyed was all the terraces we saw as we toured the back roads of the island.

At that time I was taking photographs with slide film, and although the slides have degraded over the years, they still bring back wonderful memories.  This image is made from a scanned slide that was ‘tweaked’ in Photoshop to hide some of the damage.

The View from a Bali Beach

Looking seaward from Kuta Beach

(Note:  All pictures may be enlarged by clicking on them once or twice.)

Several days ago I was looking through some images I had scanned from 30-year-old slides and found an image taken on Bali looking out to sea from the beach.

Unfortunately the image showed the age of the slide more than I liked, so I played around in Photoshop adding a texture and using a soft light blending mode.  This is the result, and I must admit that I rather like it.

By the way, the white line along the center of the image is caused by waves crashing into the reef forming the lagoon.

Bali Sunset

Way back in 1987 I had the joy of spending a few days on the island of Bali.  This was about as close to a tropical paradise as I am ever likely to see.  This photo of a Bali sunset was taken at our hotel at Kuta Beach.  Way back then I was shooting Kodak slide film, and this image was scanned from a slide taken at that time.

This image was scanned from a slide I took in June, 1987, on the island of Bali in Indonesia.  I was one of a group of college professors who were going to China to teach for the summer.  We spent a few days in Bali before continuing our journey to China.

One afternoon a storm came up from the Pacific while I was along the beach.  The storm was quickly over, and I snapped this picture as the sun started breaking through the clouds again.

Lake Batur on Bali, Indonesia, is in the crater of the volcanic Mount Baur.  I visited Lake Batur in June, 1987, when visiting with a group of fellow professors on our way to China to teach for the summer.  This image was made from a slide made at that time.

This photo was scanned from a slide made in 1987.  I was part of a team of professors going to China that summer, and we had a couple of days on Bali before entering China.  I was out early one morning and looked up as I walked among some palm trees.  I have to admit that I like this picture.
